Hi September. Well, you sure snuck up fast after the hullabaloo of back-to-school and summer-end. Pools are closed, and naturally, we’ve now focused ahead on Fall.

Baby Wearing Hike
Details: September 7, Sweet Arrow Reserve at 8:00- 9:00 am
View native-Ohio butterflies and moths in all stages of metamorphosis. Exploration will bring discoveries about the various species of butterflies and plants making each experience a personal connection with nature. The mission of the house is to exhibit native butterflies in a natural environment, captivate visitors, inspire protection of threatened habitats, and educate the public on butterfly/moth life cycles and their plant partnerships.

Baby wearing is a great way to hike where strollers cannot. All stages of wearing are welcome and hikes will be on trails that are moderately flat. We will explore Sweet Arrow Reserve and enjoy the outdoor air with our little ones! This program will be canceled in inclement weather. Registration is required. Greater Dayton Anti Bullying Rally
Details: September 9, Courthouse Square (3rd & Main Streets, Downtown Dayton) , 11:00- 3:00 pm
Join us as we raise awareness of the hurtful and sometimes tragic consequences of bullying. We will have games, food, face painters, music, and live entertainment. We will also some great informational booths, including GLSEN Greater Dayton, FLOC (For Love of Children – Dayton) and the Dayton Metro Library. This is a free family oriented event!
Science Saturdays with Mister C

Fall Frolics Youth Hike
Details: September 13, Sweet Arrow Reserve, 2:30- 4:00 pm
Join us for an after school adventure through the trails at Sweet Arrow Reserve! We will discover historic trees, critters near the creek, and climb across huge logs to explore new paths that will lead to infinite adventures. Please dress for a mess and wear sturdy shoes for the trails and wet creek crossings. Pre-registration 2 days prior is required until the minimum is met, once the minimum is met walk ups are welcome. Register by 9/11.
Recycle and Reuse Paper Making
Details: September 14, Park District Headquarters, 6:30- 7:30 pm
Families will make a rough recycled paper sheet from a paper pulp mixture. Using this method we will learn what physical changes are required for the recycling of paper. Minimum of 5 required. Pre-registration is required 9/13.
The Air Force Marathon Sports and Fitness Expo

Touch a Truck at Vandalia Recreation Center

Honey Fest

Save our pollinators! Join us at Delco Park for the 2nd Annual HoneyFest. This event is all about our local pollinators, hear from local Ohio beekeepers, honey vendors, educators and more! Food trucks and items made with honey will be available.
Farm Day at Bowman Landes

Join Bowman and Landes for our “Farm Day” event! Admission to the event is FREE and it is fun for the whole family! We invite you to our farm to view our turkeys on pasture and we will have many great activities including hay rides, a barrel train ride, straw maze, face paintings, scavenger hunt and more! Our tractors, farm equipment, and antique cars will be on display. We will be serving a variety of delicious food items for lunch including our famous turkey legs!

Dayton Parent KidsFest

Bring the whole family for some FREE fun. 2017 Dayton Parent KidsFEST presented by Goldfish Swim School! We will have our very popular Cover Kid Contest where a photographer will take quick photos of each child that wants to enter. There will also be characters, pony rides, face painting, entertainment, inflatables, and tons of booths all with giveaways, drawings or activities. Sponsored by Dayton Children’s Hospital, Meijer, and Morris Furniture Family Series/Victoria Theatre.
Stargazing

Everyone is invited to join local astronomy enthusiasts on this autumn night for an evening of stargazing; there will be a lot to see as local astronomers share their telescopes to explore the wilderness above us! Saturn and our Moon will pass within 2 degrees of each other! Is there a risk of a celestial collision of epic proportions? Well, no because they are actually millions of miles apart, but this rare occurrence, known as a conjunction, shouldn’t be missed. Come to Washington Mill Park to discover the night sky. Feel free to bring your telescope or binoculars if you have them to learn more about the sky. This program will be cancelled during inclement weather/ cloudy skies.
