Worth the Drive: LEGOLAND Discovery Center

My kids love LEGO, and on a daily basis are playing and creating with the little multicolored bricks. It’s safe to say that they’re obsessed with all things LEGO, so when we learned that the eponymous LEGOLAND was coming to Ohio, we couldn’t wait to check it out!

LEGOLAND Discovery Center just opened in Columbus and is the 12th in North America and the only location that’s a true day trip from Cincinnati. It’s 36,000 square feet of fun in Columbus’s Easton Town Center, and it’s everything your LEGO-loving kids could dream of — and more!

With indoor playgrounds, two rides, MINILAND Ohio, a 4D cinema, virtual “factory tour” and 10 themed play zones, LEGOLAND Discovery Center is absolutely worth the drive.

Upon entry, kids can take a “factory tour,” which is an interactive experience that puts kids in the driver’s seat of a virtual LEGO factory. They’ll enjoy putting together different LEGO figures and being immersed in the world of LEGO.

There are two rides in LEGOLAND — and my kids enjoyed both. The first put kids in the driver’s seat as they battled virtual medieval villains in a LEGO world. The other is a carnival-like spinning ride that’s not for the faint of heart!

My favorite part of LEGOLAND was MINILAND Ohio — an expansive homage to Ohio’s iconic buildings and cityscapes (including Cincinnati’s Museum Center and Great American Tower!). The cityscapes were absolutely amazing and included lots of buttons for kids to interact with the scenes.

My kids could have easily spent hours in the LEGOLAND indoor playground(s). For younger tots, there is, of course, a Duplo playground with large, soft bricks, blown-up animals for climbing and even a playset and slide. (Have your kids slide into the soft bricks — it’s so fun!)

The LEGOLAND Discovery Center is the ultimate indoor (LEGO) playground — the three-story LEGO City play space looks like a larger-than-life version of your kids’ LEGO fire station, construction and police station sets. (Santa brought the fire station for Christmas last year and my kids got such a kick out of playing inside a real-life version.)

LEGOLAND Discovery Center is best for kids ages 3-10 — but really, is anyone ever too old to play with LEGO? This brand-new Columbus attraction is just another reason to love Ohio – and Cincinnati parents can easily make LEGOLAND into a fun day trip as the weather turns colder this fall!

LEGOLAND Discovery Center Columbus is located at 165 Easton Town Center, Columbus, OH 43219. It’s open daily from 10 am to 8 pm. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the LEGOLAND Discover Center Columbus website.
