April showers bring… lots of free family fun!  Here are some free things to do in Dayton this April:

SAT 01

Celebrating Life and Health, 10:00 am- 3:00 pm

Location: Sinclair Community College
Offering screenings from over sixty different local health and education related vendors. It is open to everyone, and all attendees receive a free healthy meal and family activities in addition to access to all the screenings.

MON 03

Toddler & Preschool Dance Party, 10:00- 10:30 am

Location: West Carrollton Branch Library, 300 E Central Ave.,West Carrollton 45449
This program is for kids who love to move and dance around!  We will read stories with motions and dance to music using scarves, shakers, bubbles, and more! Registration is not required, so just stop by! For ages 2-6.

 FRI 07

CraftyCon,  5:00-10:00 pm

Location: Yellow Cab Tavern
Shop from over 25 artisan vendors! Watch the battle of the Crafters, see Tracy McElfresh do a t-shirt transformation demo This event is a benefit to raise funds for 12th annual Sideshow. Arrive early to get one of our swag bags! And of course, drink some tasty craft beer (for the parents!)  Food and refreshment will be available on site. Play & Learn, 9:30- 11:00 am

Location: Trotwood Library, 651 E. Main St., Trotwood, Ohio 45426
The library is collaborating with 4C for Children to bring you a Kaleidoscope Play & Learn© group to help you prepare your child (birth to age 5) for success in school and life. In this program, based on scientific evidence, children have fun participating in play activities and socializing with other children.

Friends of SICSA’s Spring Bazaar, 12:00- 7:00 pm

Location: SICSA Pet Adoption Center, 2600 Wilmington Pike, Kettering 45419
At the bazaar, you’ll find dog and cat beds, crafts, toys, homemade dog biscuits and people baked goods, gardening items, and other new and used treasures. All proceeds benefit SICSA!

SAT 08

Helicopter Egg Drop 2017, 9:00-11:30 am

Location: The River Church, 5546 Cincinnati Dayton Road, Liberty Township, OH 45044
Join us for our annual Helicopter Egg Drop on Saturday, April 8 (rain or shine). This event is for kids from 2 years old to 5th grade. We have a separate section for 2-5 year olds and another one for 1st-5th graders. We will also have several activities like pictures with Mr. or Mrs. Cottontail (we will mail you the picture, which is why we need your address), cupcake walk, face painting, games, tattoos, and coloring. Science Saturdays, 9:30-10:30 am

Learning Science really is fun! Mister C is an educator who loves to make learning fun for everyone and creates awesome videos to help students learn about super duper cool science concepts. Don’t wait any longer!

Annual Easter Egg Hunt, 10:30 am

Location: Fairmont Church, 3705 Far Hills Ave. Kettering, 45429
A huge success in past years, this event is always a crazy and fun-filled time. The hunt begins at 10:30am, and will be followed by lunch and a puppet show. Contact Carol Bussey or Rachel Boden with any questions!

Opening Day on the Trails – Cascade Trail Wildflower Hike, 10:00 am- 12:00 pm

Location: Rentschler Forest MetroPark: Riverside Fire Pit – 5701 Reigart Rd., Hamilton, OH
April! What a great month to get out on your favorite trail. The weather is great and the wildflowers are in bloom. Celebrate the national Opening Day on the Trails by taking a wildflower hike on the recently improved Cascade Trail.

Every Spring, we host a free day of music where folks of all ages (toddlers and up) can come and try things they’ve always wanted to under the guidance of professional teachers

Join us for nursery rhymes, songs, fingerplays, and stories, all to encourage early literacy skills in your children. For children 18 to 36 months with a caregiver.

THURS 13

SICSA Preschool Trails, 10:00-11:00 am

Preschool Trails at SICSA

Location: SICSA Pet Adoption Center, 2600 Wilmington Pike, Kettering 45419
Preschool Tails is an hour-long program in which SICSA staff read a fun children’s picture book with a humane theme and complete a craft or activity. Children will
also have a chance to interact with adoptable pets. Programs are offered monthly, with a new book and activity for each program. Preschool Tails fosters respect and kindness for animals while encouraging creativity andenhancing vocabulary.

FRI 14

Drum Circle, 7:00 pm

Location: Reiki Room of Dayton, 848 E Franklin St, Washington Township, OH 45459
No experience necessary. Drums to share. Bring your friends! Drum circles have been used since ancient times, all over the world, to create and maintain physical, mental and spiritual health.Current research is now verifying the therapeutic effects of ancient rhythm techniques. Recent research reviews indicate that drumming accelerates physical healing, boosts the immune system and produces feelings of well-being, a release of emotional trauma, and reintegration of self.

Storytime at the Rosewood Arts Centre, 11:30- 12:00 am

Foster an early love of art with storytime at Rosewood Gallery! A librarian from Dayton Metro Libraries will share books and then a Rosewood instructor will lead a hands on craft. Appropriate for children ages
3-6 years old. Free and open to the public.

Kite Flying at Museum of US Air Force

Location: National Museum of US Air Force, 1100 Spaatz Street, Wright-Patterson AFB 45433
Visitors can observe the incredible sport of indoor kite flying by watching members of local kite clubs fly their kites indoors with no wind! This activity takes place in the event area next to the Korean War Gallery from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Other demonstration stations throughout the day will teach visitors about the properties of air and flying.

Superheroes Party at the Play Area, 2:00-4:00 pm

Join us for a free event at the Dayton Children’s Flight Zone Play Area with your favorite characters Spiderman, Batman, Belle a

Earth Day Raptor Program, 2:00 pm

Location: Glen Helen Raptor Center1075 Ohio 343, Yellow Springs, OH 45387
Celebrate Earth Day with a look at many Ohio native raptors at the Glen Helen Raptor Center. Learn about the species we care for, and enjoy an opportunity to see the birds up-close. Bring your camera and a blanket to sit on, and consider hiking in from our Corry Street parking lot if you’re able. Raptor Center, 1075 State Route 343.

Natural Arts Fest, 10:00 am- 4:00 pm

Location: Bellbrook Sugarcreek Park, 2751 Washington Mill Road, Bellbrook 45305
This 5th Annual Natural Arts Fest will feature items for sale inspired by nature.  Professional artists will have paintings, photography, jewelry, wood items, and so much more on display.  Mother’s Day is just around the corner, so come out and find that perfect gift to show her how much you love her.  You will be able to find unique gifts for anyone!

Family Fun Fest

Family Fun Fest will be a free event hosted by The Center for Family Solutions and this event will be open to the community, we encourage everyone to come. This event
will provide an opportunity for families to engage in fun, educational and safe activities together. The goal of this event is to provide families an afternoon of activities to enjoy together and to promote healthy relationships in honor of child abuse prevention month.

Kite Flying, 3:30- 5:00 pm

The spring winds are shifting in the warm air and April is known as a prime kite flying month here in Ohio. It’s time to dust off your kite and paint the sky over Washington Mill Park with all of the colors in the rainbow! This will be a fun, relaxing afternoon with family and friends.
