Free Things to Do in April

It’s April, finally, which means spring is here! It also means tons of fun indoor and outdoor programs for kids– and lots of free family fun!

 

 

 

CraftyCon

Details: Friday, April 6, Yellow Cab Building, 5:00 pm
The 7th annual CraftyCon will feature wares from over 30 local artisan vendors, demos, a food truck, craft beer and more. This event is a benefit to raise funds for 13th annual Sideshow. Admission is free and open to the public.

Family Game Night: Bingo and Pizza

Details: Friday, April 6, Bell Brook Sugar Creek Parks, 6:30- 7:30 pm
Looking for something fun and exciting to do with your family? Join us for Family Bingo! This will be a fun night of prizes with bingo combinations such as 4 Corners, Crazy H, Goal Post, and 5 in a row. We will also provide pizza for you to snack on while enjoying the game. Minimum of 12 required.

Party in the Park: Grand Re-Opening of Cleveland Park

Details: Saturday, April 7, Cleveland Park, 12:00 pm
We are celebrating the opening of a nature play area and a mural at the park with activities for kids, including face painting, crafts, and games. There will also be food, and outdoor education opportunities. The River Mobile, a mobile classroom, will be present at the event and open to the public for the exploration of Dayton’s water resources, including the Great Miami Buried Aquifer. It should be a day of fun, learning, and celebration.

Wellness and Fun Fair

Details: Sunday, April 8, Kettering College, 12:30 pm
Join them for the Spring into Health Wellness and Fun Fair hosted at Kettering College! This event will take place on April 8 at 12:30 pm, before the Spring Into Health 5K, and will last throughout the day. You do not have to run in the race to participate in the Wellness and Fun Fair, but we hope you do! This event is free, open to the public, and child friendly.

Ben and Jerrys Free Cone Day

Details: Tuesday, April 10, Ben & Jerry’s, 12:00- 8:00 pm
Every time you enjoy a scoop of Ben & Jerry’s, you’re showing us how much you care. We love you too, & Free Cone Day is our favorite way to show it!  Dayton’s only Ben & Jerry’s is located on Brown Street. The popular ice-cream store will not sell any products on Free Cone Day; it is simply a day of giving back to the local community.

Recycle and Reuse – Plastics!

Details: Wednesday, April 11, Bell Brook Sugar Creek Parks, 6:30- 7:30 pm
Participants will learn to use the thermoform method of recycling plastic. From this program participants will be able to describe the physical changes in matter required for the recycling of plastic, glass and metals. Learn why recycling plastic is a difficult process.

Twinleaf Wildflower Trek

Details: Saturday, April 14, Morris Reserve, 10:00 am
Discover a rare wildflower that only blooms two days a year at our newly opened nature park! The beautiful hillsides in this park are full of spring ephemerals that will delight you with their fragrance and eye catching colors! Wildflower bingo will be included for even more fun on the trails!

Month of the Military Child Celebration

Kite Tales Family Day

KidX Earth Day Celebration

Join us for a fun and free kids Earth Day celebration in Center Court and is filled with crafts, story time, games, refreshments and planting flowers outside our main mall entrance

Earth Day Service Project: Plant a Pollinator Habitat

Details: Saturday, April 21, Robert F. Mays Park, 10:00 am
Celebrate Earth Day by helping our bees and butterflies! Plant native wildflower habitats at the park! Families are welcome to stay any length of time to plant within the habitat. You can also help the pollinators at your house by taking 2 plants home as a thank you! Dress for garden work and bring garden gloves, a water bottle and a towel.
