To go along with the “Universe of Stories” theme, Dayton Metro Library is offering some out-of-this-world Grand Prizes in its Summer Challenge program. This year’s prizes offer fun experiences families can enjoy together at local attractions, including the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, Carillon Historical Park, the Boonshoft Museum, and more.
Summer Challenge runs May 17-August 3, with categories for all ages of children from babies through high school. Both online and paper tracking is available for participants to log the time spent reading, being read to, attending Library programs, or – for the youngest participants – accomplishing simple learning activities.
Grand Prizes will be awarded at each branch of the Dayton Metro Library. All participants who reach the 3600-minute level (60 hours of reading and/activities) will be entered into drawings for:
Admission for 4 to CARILLON HISTORICAL PARK, includes a ride on the beautiful, local-themed carousel, for kindergarten & younger.
Admission for 4 to the NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE U.S. AIR FORCE, includes a choice of the Digital 3D Theater or Flight Simulator, for grades 1-6 (height limits apply).
Membership to Wright B Flyer, Inc. includes ONE FLIGHT ON THE WRIGHT B FLYER PLANE, for grades 7-12 (height limits apply).
Additionally, all participants who reach the 3600 minute level will be invited to a special takeover of the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery on November 2. This event includes Planetarium and Science Theater shows, live animal encounters, Science on a Sphere, all museum exhibits, and refreshments, too.
“We are so excited to offer prizes that really reward the efforts of young people who work so hard to read, learn, and reach their goals in the Summer Challenge,” said Mandie Burns, Dayton Metro Library’s Youth Services Director. “These experiences will bring family members together to continue building a supportive environment in which learning is both important and fun.”
Sign up for the Summer Challenge at any branch of the Dayton Metro Library starting May 17, or register online starting May 1 at DaytonMetroLibrary.org/Summer.
