Bishop Leibold School has earned the Ohio Governor’s Award for Excellence in STEM Education for eight years in a row! We are the only grade school, public or private, in Montgomery County to have achieved this outstanding accomplishment.
Last year, Bishop Leibold was just 1 of 61 schools in the State to receive the accolade. But we didn’t stop there! “In the last five years we have received over $10,000 in grants to enhance our programming,” says Mrs. Beth Allaire, STEM coordinator “in doing so, we continue to push our programming forward and respond to the advances that are being made in the science community” Our STEM program focuses on authentic units that employ the engineering design process. In doing so, students embrace problem solving and teamwork, as core skills in their education toolbox. Our model of STEM begins with integration into our youngest classrooms, spanning grades K-8.
With dedicated space and weekly scheduled time, the STEM program helps students to have a fuller understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math fields.
Additional STEM activities for students in grades 1-8 include:
● Exploring how computer coding technology works.
● Extracurricular programming, such as STEMpm in grades 4-8 and First Lego League Robotics teams (Bishop Leibold has two!) further engage students in the fields of science and math.
● STEAM Saturdays are offered once a quarter to children enrolled in grades K-3 from any area school.
Last quarter, students from Bishop Leibold, Miamisburg, and Oakwood schools came together for a fun morning exploring Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math.
