If you are interested in a hands-on, educational adventure in aviation and aeronautics, join Air Camp in Dayton, Ohio — hometown of the Wright Brothers and the birthplace of aviation!
Our original Air Camp program is a week-long overnight camp available to students entering grades 7, 8, and 9. This overnight middle school program is designed to immerse participants in innovative and immersive learning modules that foster higher levels of individual confidence, curiosity, and capabilities to successfully pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education and career opportunities. All learning activities are also engineered to reinforce skills associated with leadership, scholarship, and citizenship. Students are provided the unforgettable opportunity to reside in dorms at the University of Dayton campus after participating in hands-on, collaborative activities for up to 15 hours per day. In 2018, we are partnering with the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts for additional overnight camp opportunities where the students will reside at the Boy/Girl Scout camp location.
Teachers have the ability to significantly impact the trajectory of the future of each student.
Because we cannot invite all interested students to participate in Air Camp with us, we provide teachers with the opportunity to bring Air Camp into their classrooms. Our Teachers Air Camp program is a four day, three night adventure which includes engagement in fourteen immersive STEM activities over the course of seven site visits, flight ground training, piloting an aircraft, receiving class sets of supplemental materials and aligned engineering design challenges, and collaboration time for ideation sessions.
To further extend our ability to inspire students to seek education and employment in the STEM fields, we have instituted day camps for students entering grades 4, 5, and 6.
The day camp curriculum is designed for students to learn about aviation and the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) of aeronautics. Every day is spent at various sites and locations in and around the greater Dayton area where students are given the opportunity to learn and participate in activities geared to broaden their knowledge, foster confidence, curiosity and to expose them to a very comprehensive bandwidth of professions connected to the STEM fields with an emphasis on aviation and aeronautics. From building rockets on Huffman Prairie to learning how STEM helps keep Young’s Dairy a favorite gathering spot for families, our students are introduced to the vast career opportunities all around them that involve STEM.
Air Camp is a not for profit organization founded in the early 2000’s by four invested and engaged STEM leaders in the Dayton-area. Air camp is supported by grants and donations from leading educational institutions, businesses, foundations, and individuals.
